Walnut Creek Farm is a family owned and run business with 50 acres of land and 6 greenhouses. In our greenhouses we grow greens, berries, tomatoes, squash, peppers and much more. We are using a method called aquaponics. Aquaponics is a form of agriculture that combines raising fish in tanks (recirculating aquaculture) with soilless plant culture. In aquaponics, the nutrient-rich water from raising fish provides a natural fertilizer for the plants and the plants help to purify the water for the fish. We also have a peach orchard, cut flowers, 10 live almond trees, and row cropping, including: Melons, squashes, radish, carrots, onions, and potatoes. For other fresh produce, we partner with Texas farms that we have visited and verified that they practice the same growing methods and/or are organic.
Retail store located at 6521 Asher Rd. Alvarado, TX 76009.
About our Produce
Walnut Creek Farm has fresh produce growing year-round and grows a large portion of the produce that we sell. Apples, Oranges, Pineapples, and Avocados are brought in from partnered organic farms for your convenience. All of the produce that we grow here at Walnut Creek is grown using organic methods; however, we are not currently “Organically Certified” as the certification process is time consuming and costly. Additionally, Walnut Creek Farm co-ops with farms in Harlingen & McAllen on citrus. We know The Farms and the Methods used – No GMOs, No Harmful Pesticides.
About our Meat
Our Angus Beef
Walnut Creek Farm has premium Black Angus Beef that we know from baby to process and can guarantee is Grass Fed and Grass Finished, with no hormones and no antibiotics. Grass fed means that for the animal’s entire life it only ate grass and forages (like hay), the reasoning being to provide the animals with the healthiest and most natural diet. Here at Walnut Creek Farm, we have a Cow/Calf Operation. We humanely process at 18 to 24 months. We also provide memorial blocks as well for the health of our animals.
Our All-Natural Chicken and Turkey
Our chickens and heritage turkeys are fed a non-soy, non-gmo grain with no fillers and are raised in a cage free/free range environment. Our chicken comes from a farm in Corsicana that we own, and our turkey comes from Waco, which we package and prepare for sale upon arrival.
Walnut Creek Farm also has excellent Pastured Pork. Pastured pork comes from pigs that live a life that is no different from if they were in their natural habitat. Pastured pigs also receive feed from a farmer in addition to food they root for themselves. Our preferred pigs are Durocs and are raised in Grandview.
In a similar fashion to our Beef, Walnut Creek Farms Lamb meat is also Grass Fed and Finished with no hormones or antibiotics. They are raised at one of our partner farms.
Our Salmon is wild caught and is flown to us in season once a week from Alaska for your convenience. We also often have Redfish from the Texas Coast, and Cod and Sea Bass during prime time.
About the Forster’s
Mark is a first-generation Farmer, whose mother also had a passion for growing produce. Mark grew up with family gardens, and after a major medical issue became determined to Eat Vegetables and help everyone have quality greens.
Linda is from a farming family that has survived off the land. She is a very mechanical and detail-oriented Gourmet Chef that knows The Best Ingredients.
Chaz is a second-generation Farmer and the son of Mark and Linda. He has grown up on the farm and loves the challenge of it, working hard in all aspects from planting seeds to harvest and processing.
About the Farm (History)
Walnut Creek Farm started in 2001 after Forster left the corporate world. The land is 50 acres with one side of Black Clay and one side sandy loam. The actual “Walnut Creek” (creek) runs from Stephenville through our farm to Arlington, thus the name. We have been in the cattle business for 25 years. Our land was not being used so we added thousands of tons of mulch that we then tilled in, and then improved our irrigation techniques. All crops are hand planted to minimize impact on soil – water and full usage.
We’ve always had a great experience at Walnut Creek. Their products are always very fresh and reasonably priced. We love supporting local farms and it’s great knowing where our food comes from and that it’s organic. They also coordinate our local farmers market and always have a huge selection of produce and meat to offer every week. They are responsive to messages and questions that we have. Our produce share is always ready to go when we need it. We try to send as many local friends their way whenever we can.
We’ve visited them at the Burleson farmers market. Love the bacon, chicken and now their standing rib roast. Big success for Christmas. We look forward to visiting them over and over again.
Excellent meat and very nice people. Some of the best looking ribeye steaks I have seen in a long time. Would recommend to anyone.
